GRAND ROUNDS
A 5½ years old HIV infected girl presented for further management. She was detected to be HIV infected at 3 months of age and has been antiretroviral therapy (ART) since then. She was initially on stavudine (d4T), lamivudine (3TC) and nevirapine (NVP) till 3½ years of age and subsequently d4T was shifted to abacavir (ABC) in view of lipodystrophy. Her serial PCR, ELISA, CD4, viral load are depicted in Table 1. She is currently asymptomatic and weight is 20.1 kg.
Is this functional HIV cure? Should her ART be stopped?
