GRAND ROUNDS
A 12 year old girl presented with recurrent fever and cough for 1 year, respiratory distress for 4 days and vomiting for 3 days. She had been treated with 5 drugs antituberculous therapy (ATT) including 90 doses of Inj Streptomycin for 6 months for the same. Her HIV test was positive though parents were negative and there was no history of blood transfusion.
How did this child develop HIV infection? Did intramuscular streptomycin lead to HIV?
