A 24 years old married woman was found to be HIV infected in 6th month of pregnancy. She had an earlier missed abortion at 1½ month of gestation and second child had died at 1½ months of age. During the present pregnancy, she was treated with Zidovudine (AZT) for 3 months, underwent a caesarean section and did not breast feed the child. The baby girl was given Zidovudine for 6 weeks. The child was tested by a DNA PCR at 6 months of age which was negative.
Is this HIV DNA PCR enough to confirm that child is HIV negative?
